Local Area

The province of Guanacaste is located in Costa Rica's Pacific northwest region, which is know for its fierce independence and singular history. The capital of the Guanacaste province, Liberia, is Costa Rica's most northerly town of importance with a population of 40,000. The city retains a unique colonial atmosphere.

A mere 30 minutes from Liberia's international airport, Peninsula Papagayo is one of Mother Nature’s most revered achievements. Formed by volcanic activity and sculpted by wind, rain and sun, this jagged pair of peninsulas slips majestically into the warm waters of the Golfo de Papagayo. The expanse and diversity of this unspoiled spit of land is astonishing: 15 miles of coastline, 14 miles of bluff edges, 31 separate beaches of white, coral, gray and black sands.

Nearby, the beach cities of Playa Panama, Playa Hermosa, Playas del Coco and Playa Ocotal offer a multitude of off property options for recreation, dining and shopping. Conveniences such as banks, malls, and North American style grocery stores are within reach, if needed. Foreigners are warmly welcomed by the locals and tourists enjoy the frequent local cultural events held throughout the year in various towns nearby.
